Spoon sink is the beautiful creation of Philip Watts Design

spoon sink
Spoon sink is the beautiful creation of Philip Watts Design’s in house team and will be exclusively launched at 100% Design at Stand(H41)

The company created the stunning Spoon urinal in 2005; it won immediate acclaim, winning an FX design award. It has taken a while but the flowing lines of the sister product are even more graceful than that of its sibling. The basin, like the urinal, is made from a resin composite and is 100% UK manufactured. It can be used with a mono- block tap as pictured of with a wall mounted spout. Currently the only stockist are Philip Watts Design. Also on show will be the company’s other products, which include the outrageous glowing urinal as well as their more famous porthole and handle ranges.

Andy Martin Associates design restaurant for 100% Design

100_design_restaurant_pavilion

Andy Martin Associates has created three groups of giant aluminum petals as canopies for the 100% Design restaurant.

Practice founder Andy Martin said ‘we looked for an element that diners could sit around and under, instead of ring fencing them like sheep. Exhibitions tend to be grid based and very rigis and this was our reaction to that’.

New Launches By British Lighting Manufacturer Original BTC

Texture and shadow are the hallmarks of the latest launches by British lighting manufacturer Original BTC. Pleasingly unprocessed, textural shades take on a new dimension when illuminated, with creases and movement in bone china and glass creating striking shadow play. A new, shortened semi-sphere shade is interpreted in three different finishes: table or pendant lights with dimpled or stepped bone china shades cast a beautiful ambient glow, while a ribbed prismatic glass shade refracts light into elegant, angular shapes.
Also previewing is a collection of solid brass shades hand-spun and finished in Birmingham, available in the original brass, silver or copper plate with either a hammered or smooth finish. Joining them are extensions to the ‘Drop’ collection, including an oversize pendant hand-cast in Original BTC’S Stoke-on-Trent factory.

Pebble Seating by Benjamin Hubert

pebble

To be launched at 100% Design in London, Pebble is a series of seating (one chair and two stools) by Benjamin Hubert for De Vorm. He tells MoCo Loco,

“The furniture collection is inspired by the form of beach pebbles found washed up by the sea. The design is a combination of rotational moulding, solid oak and CNC formed metal. Rotational moulding is predominantly used for large outdoor furniture. Pebble brings this material indoors and adds an increased sense of sophistication through its form, finish and combination with other materials. Pebble has a low carbon footprint as the seats are manufactured from recyclable polyethylene and the knock down construction contains no additional fixings. The legs locate into the moulded top and are held together under tension by the powder coated steel band.”

Thomas Heatherwick at Haunch Of Venison until 7th November by Tom Wright

Heatherwick’s children were allowed onto the gleaming benches in the Senate Room at Haunch of Venison. They had climbed there, past knitted legs of chattering adults, onto high podiums and around gnarled edges. They jumped from platforms to awaiting arms, clasping tightly to parents’ necks as mingling progressed. I was jealous. A little bit about the hugging but mainly about the sitting. I wanted to perch on the rippled, metal furniture; relax, recline, touch and enjoy a wholly new type of seat. Sadly, they are on podiums. Bathed in intelligent lighting. A tease.
