Five teams from design collective Okay Studio caused a stir at Clerkenwell Design Week with their eclectic mix of designs coined ‘Five’ for the American Hardwood Export Council, who have set a precedent with their festival collaborations. Hunting and Narud, Mathias Hahn, Ed SwanLiliana Ovalle, Andrew Haythornwaite and Peter Marigold presented their innovative homewares crafted from five American Hardwood species at the Scin Gallery.

David Venables, Director of AHEC explained “One key aspect of this project for us is promoting and demonstrating the performance of the material. Out of a single set of materials, have come five very different designs and the teams at Okay Studio have risen to that challenge extremely well and I think we have all learnt more about the versatility of the materials as a result.”

Hunting and Narud worked with the complete range of species – American ash, cherry, hard maple, red oak and tulipwood, on their ‘Apex Tables’ – a series of side tables. Black and blue colour stain match the seat on some of range, whilst others are left natural. Glass reveals the quality of the wood on the hardwood cones and is clear as well as smoked.
