The sofa of no return: ‘Iceberg’ by Noon Studio

The achingly cool and impressively talented French design duo of Gautier Pelegrin and Vincent Taïani have just announced their 2010 Noon Studio collection. The pair are known for producing inspired pieces of work that include architecture, product design, graphics and photography. Despoke loves the sharp lines of the beautiful ‘Iceberg Sofa’ pictured above.

Kate Simcoe, a Design Craft graduate from Oxford and Cherwell Valley College, has designed numerous different prints. Her work is essentially story telling. Kate’s project began with a collection of cigar bands that her mother had collected as a child.

Kate wanted to know all about her life at the time of collecting, events and experiences that came to mind from the time period. She wanted to design a collection of wall papers that were not reliant on fashion or trend but could still appeal to a wide audience. The collection is very vibrant, the colour palette being from a collection of my mums things. It reads like a story book, incorporating daily life, such as pets and friends to slightly darker issues such as injuries and arguments, something which Kate also tried to show through the colour scheme

New Design Britain also showcased some talented young designers, especially:Lynsey Jean Henderson – Scottish-inspired wallpapers:
Lynsey Henderson, a M.F.A student at Edinburgh College of Art, specializing in printed textiles, has designed a range of wallpapers which are intrinsically Scottish.

Cardboard Furniture from Lazerian Studio

The Honeycomb range of furniture emerged as part of a collaborative project between furniture designer Liam Hopkins and artist Richard Sweeney at Lazerian studio, Manchester. The designers constrained themselves to the use of corrugated cardboard sourced locally from John Hargreaves’ factory in Stalybridge, which produces paper from recycled pulp using machinery originally installed in 1910. The Honeycomb Sofa and Armchair are released at Interiors 2010 with Designers Block at the NEC Birmingham, 24-27th January 2010.
