Craft Council Launches major Research project


Making value: the economic and social contribution of craft makers
The Crafts Council has just launched a major research project into the economic and social value of craft, focusing on portfolio working craft makers who engage with other industry sectors and community and education contexts.

They are looking for makers who apply their craft skills/knowledge/creativity in other industry sectors (eg fashion, television, carnival, leisure, tourism etc) and/or in community settings (eg youth, older people, criminal justice etc) who would be interested in taking part in this interview based research.

Whitworth Art Gallery to Host First Major UK Exhibition of Artists’ Wallpapers from Feb 6th

The first major UK exhibition of artists’ wallpapers with work by over 30 artists including Andy Warhol, Sarah Lucas and Damien Hirst. Kitch ideas of home decoration are turned upside down as artists subvert the stereotypes of wallpaper to hit home messages about warfare, racism, cultural conflicts and gender.

Easily assembled and conveniently flat packed, the idiosyncratic structures, furniture and lighting range use triangular folding methods and are surprisingly hardy. Constructed from recycled / recyclable materials the products are can withstand heavy use and are manufactured locally. Review of young Spanish Design During 100% design London

Young Spanish designers have some features in common: traditional materials, sustainability, innovative manufacturing processes and, above all, the use of very simple, yet graphic forms. Here are a selection of these new designers: Apparatu, Attua Aparicio, Cristina Toledo, Diego Ramos, Guillem Ferrán, OBJ Studio, Óscar Díaz, Tomás Alonso and Yonoh. Brompton Bike Feature at 100% design london

Yonoh Box: Modular bathroom

The finalist of the Roca Jumpthegap contest announced during 100% Design London, the “Box” from Valencia-based studio Yonoh is a modular bathroom system designed for architectural construction and interior spaces. The modular bathroom system has three different parts: first one includes a watercloset and wash-basin, second contains the shower, a small seat and two shelves with towel racks, and the last section includes extra storage space and serves as an expansion piece to enlarge the bathroom.
