Luxury Made with Maddux Creative

Not long until Luxury made at Olmypia’s grand Pillar Hall. We asked the creative designers behind the show a few questions. Get inspired by their answers below as well as some great renders of what the stunning interior space will look like. To read more about the pair, click here.

1. How do you define luxury interiors?
Luxury is a word that is used often today, but with little thought about its actual meaning. We believe what is regarded as luxury is changing. For Maddux Creative, contemporary luxury interiors embody the following principles; original and bespoke solutions, craftsmanship, sustainability and attention to detail.

2. What do you think is important about London’s contribution to luxury interiors?
London’s position as a global financial capital, and the wealth that this brings, ensures there is a large market for luxury interiors here.
But perhaps London’s greater wealth may lie in its position as a truly “world” city. The diverse mix of residents and transients, a large part of the clientele of the luxury interiors sector, makes for a wide-ranging, exciting and often unexpected combination of aesthetic elements and styles.

3. What trends are you currently spotting?
There has been a move of late towards “decoration”, which can be seen in an increasing use of colour and unique textures, a proliferation of patterns in all scales (and on all planes), and more frequent application of detailing such as trimming and embroidery. Contradictorily, there is also a trend for pure geometrical forms, clean lines and bold materiality. Our unique historical perspective, with the accessibility of vast quantities of imagery (pinterest, instagram) and information (blogs), means that these trends, and many more, can exist simultaneously! Welcome to the post-trend world!

4. Maddux Creative have shaped the look and feel behind LuxuryMade. Could you tell us what has inspired the design?
Essentially we approached the project as we would a residential interior. The Pillar Halls is a listed building with no shortage of extraordinary features, so we had to respect them. Both the spaces are distinctly coloured, so to create a harmonious environment, we worked with the colours already existing within the spaces to create a palette that was then distributed across all of the designed elements down to the stands themselves. For our elements, such as the bars, we took clues from the existing architectural features, such as the arches, and repeated them in a stylized form to bring in some sharpness and edge.

Scott Maddux and Jo leGleud are founding partners of internationally renowned Maddux Creative, creators of the design behind LuxuryMade.

Mauro Lipparini for Casa International

We love a good chair and so do Casa International. They’ve commissioned new seating pieces  by Italian architect/designer Mauro Lipparini to add to his already strong collection.

Agordo

The subtle colour and the 1950’s influence of the Agordo, made from Italian leather, would suit a range of interiors, but we think is such a stand alone beauty, that you could have one as a statement piece. We feel it’s expensive just by looking at it, so one is probably all we could get anyway.

Cassola

Cassola

The Cassola chair has a unique look that derives from a metal understructure, linking backrest and seat. The framework is covered in a soft grey fabric that would suit a spread in Elle Decoration.

Asolo

We are particularly enamoured by the Asolo chair, we think it’s something to do with how perfect the legs are and the simplicity of the leather.

antonilupi

Antoniolupi is a Tuscan company that has been around for more than 60 years. We love this very swanky sink. not quite sure how it would work on a practical level but still……

arredo

We are always dreaming about massive, new, big kitchens. Mainly kitchens that would never fit into our house. Italian brand Arredo3 are keeping us inspired and a little sad….because the kitchen in the picture is bigger than our whole flat.

kast concrtete

We love anything concrete based and so naturally this sink by Kast has caught our eye. It comes with a variety of coloured taps and add ons but this copper one is best we think!

naber

German brand Naber have got the tiny, modular kitchen down to a tee and the module “Concept Kitchen”, which has already been awarded design awards. Nice and a bit more our size.

Fun Food

Black+Blum are pretty good at having fun with the more mundane products we all have around the household and this time they’ve turned their hand to the lunchbox. Home of squashed sandwiches, leaks and a weird smell that never really goes away however many times you wash it.

New Mylo chair from JDD

It’s not often that a chair probably designed for workspace-environments catches our eye, but we really do like the shape and the fabric of the new Mylo range by JDD.

mylo JDD

Designed and handcrafted in Birmingham, UK, the pieces come in a range of fabric options that would suit any office breakout area or indeed within a less formal situ, round a dining room table at home. The legs come in 6 different colours that would brighten up any room.

British Airways i360 lighting switched on

On the 4th August Brighton was lit up just a little bit more when  the ‘breathing’ lighting on British Airways i360 was switched on for the first time. The name might be somewhat cumbersome, but the structure is far from messy.

Shilling bar and Brewery

Up to the North, as architecture and interior design practice Jestico + Whiles complete the new Shilling Bar & Brewery in Glasgow. Opened this month, the new 160-seat brewpub is set inside the former Commercial Bank of Scotland built in the 1920s and they have made the most of the ornate architectural site features they found as well as adding in a few nods to the past of their own.

shilling

The design strips back the former interior of architectural ‘clutter’ to reveal, for the first time in decades, a beautifully proportioned banking hall with 20ft-high coffered ceilings. Fragments of the past have been uncovered and cleaned, including fluted marble columns that frame a glimpsed view to a wood-burning oven.

shilling bar

It’s rare to find beauties like these and if the ceiling heights and columns weren’t enough, they’ve added to the features already there by bringing in a mural of a majestic unicorn by local artist Gaz Mackay – one of Scotland’s most famous heraldic mythical creatures and a huge inset star embossed into the concrete floor.

Now all we have to do is get there…..Click here to read more.

Lighting and design accessories from Kukka

We have found British brand Kukka and are in love. The interiors and accessories brand offers contemporary products for the modern-day living designed by founder Rona Meyuchas-Koblenz.

kukka junit lamp

Junit is a modular pendant lamp that consists of 8 different elements. They come in a natural, clear finish or each in a different color. The bulb complements the colorful lamp with its oversized, milky glass that produces warm, ambient light.

freakish clock

We love this new way of telling the time! Freakish clock comes in five different colour ways and is a great statement piece for any room.

sj bookcase

The SJ bookcase offers a myriad of combinations and colours – from the rigorous to the more asymmetric. Each block has a different colour back and is made to fit together or in separate spaces across the home.
kukka3

We’ve spoken about how much we love boards with peg holes in and how happy they make us (strangely.) This is X Holes Round, Kukka’s version and we like. We like a lot. Made from birch, get as many pegs as you can and hang all sorts of useless trinkets to distract yourself with on it.

Luxury Made update

We take a look at the show Luxury Made and see who is on the list and ready to exhibit and showcase at the show in September.
