The Spline Chair developed from experimenting with different chair footprints. Dare wanted to design a chair that didn’t have the standard leg in each corner but offered incredible stability and comfort, thus resulting in the refined and narrowed back leg composition leading up to a beautifully shaped back rail.

The reduced footprint at the back of the chair means the chair takes up less floor space therefore ideal for restaurants or confined dining spaces.

The chair is offered in Solid American Black Walnut and White Oak with a formed veneered seat panel as well as colour lacquered Beech (available in a variety of colours)

The chair will be launched at Clerkenwell Design Week.

Phylum’s design was influenced by Shiro Studio’s Andrea Morgante and the Megaptera tray he developed for Alessi last year.

In the USA in certain cities, supermarkets are encouraging patrons to return their recyclable PET bottles by offering them a rebate. Tapping into this incentive and the hassle of having to carry a large quantity of empty bottles, Netherlands-based designer Ka-Lai Chan has come up with ‘bottled’, a carrier which makes this task a lot easier and more efficient.

The flat rubber-like disk has ten openings whereby one can easily slip the nozzles of the empty bottles through the holes. The lightweight design has a built-in handle making it user-friendly to carry around, encouraging green behavior.

ECO-FRIENDLY LEGO from Colors Tokyo

Posted on February 15th, 2012 by Mark

A new building block called Earth Blocks can be snapped together to create different shapes and structures. They are very similar to Lego but provide an eco-friendly alternative, with softer edges and muted, natural colours.

Developed by Japanese design studio Colors Tokyo, the blocks are made from a composite of the bark of the cedar tree, compressed dust from sawed-off cedar logs, coffee beans and green tea leaves. These natural materials are blended with polypropylene to maintain a rigid shape. Earth Blocks are currently available in just one shape and size, and you can get a pack of 50 from the Guggenheim museum for $30.via:[PSFK]

Frame Lamp by Arnaud Lapierre

From Triode Design, a functional light rail table light. “The light is almost mysterious, weightless on a tray which can hold objects.” A removable element, a shade made of asymmetric folds like a suspended curtain, casts light in different directions and transforms the light using the reflective properties of the material.
