100% Design 2014 show is over, it was a huge success and the four days passed in a flash. If the festival blues are kicking in don’t worry, there will be more posts coming up about the event.
Philippe Starck started the proceedings warming up the excited design crowd for what will be remembered as a vintage year for the show. The celebratory atmosphere continued throughout the event, especially when the original 100% Design cast including Jaime Anley, Tomoko Azumi, Nick Crosbie, Ella Doran, Luke Pearson, Russell Pinch, Dick Powell, Nina Tolstrup and Gareth Williams reunited at Pecha Kucha hosted by its co-founder Mark Dytham. Each designer presented their work for the 20th edition of 100% Design on the theme of ’20’.
The event offered many brilliant moments, such as Barber Osgerby in conversation with Design Museum Director Deyan Sudjic discussing ‘What’s next?’ and Jaime Hayon talking with Christopher Turner, editor of Icon magazine about his inspiration through a series of images.
Seven architects were selected to pitch their practice to a panel of experts at this year’s 100% Design at the ‘The Architect Pitch.’ Presentations lasted no longer than 3 minutes and taking part were: Patrick Walls, SOUP Architects; Ben Cousins, Cousins & Cousins; Malca Mizrahi, MTMN architects; Tatiana von Preussen, vPPR architects; Fergus Feilden, Feilden Fowles; Karsten Huneck, KHBT, and J-J Lorraine, Morrow + Lorraine. All established in their own right, each designer took the podium to deliver a pitch and all received a critique from the esteemed panel. A couple of brutal comments were delivered to some architects, but all took the remarks in their stride
Leading specialists in the Kitchen and Bathroom section played with materials, Piqu focused on marble, texture and technology – inserting the Scanomat coffee maker to the kitchen. It was all about the mix at Bulthaup who combined texture, marble and brass for an eclectic look.
Naber’s white kitchen offered a clean look with shots of bright storage.

The marble trend continued in the Bathroom section with black and gray Carrara dominating. Fraask stretched the boundaries of stone cutting technology with a towel rail carved from the same block of marble as the basin.

Ever wondered how to pitch your ideas to potential clients? Today 100% Design will select seven architects to feature in The Architect Pitch at the show. Join the live audience next week to watch the chosen practices test their communication skills in front of a panel of prominent industry experts. Organised by archiboo, the event is an exceptional opportunity for the architects to showcase their work, and receive constructive feedback.
The panel includes David Barrie, social entrepreneur and TV producer on numerous programmes including ‘Kevin McCloud and the Big Town Plan’, Nick Johnson, former Development Director of Urban Splash, Reza Merchant, founder of a London-based shared-living concept The Collective and Inma Martinez, CEO of innovative London tech startup Swoon Media. The panel will be joined by a leading developer and the event will be chaired by Amanda Baillieu, founder of archiboo.
Based on the ‘Elevator Pitch’ – which comes from the idea that if you met an investor in an elevator and only had 30 seconds to pitch your business, what would it sound like? Selected practices have just 3 minutes to pitch their practice and what makes it unique, to the panel.
