The Power of Purple: Colours of 2018

Taking a look at the predicted trends from some of the biggest influencers.

For the past 18 years, the Pantone Colour Institute has predicted the shade it believes will be favoured across the design industry over the upcoming year. Each year, however questionable the choice might seem, the influence is far-reaching.

This vibrant choice for colour of the year works brilliantly in many different ways for interior schemes. For the brave, go hard on block colours and mix this vibrant hue with other visceral and stimulating colours in your home for Mondrian-esque décor. This will give your space a stylish edge – a heady cocktail of punkish rebellion and regal opulence.

“Alternatively, the intoxicating purple sits wonderfully with the popular grey, earthy tones of 2017’s interior trends. Alongside these greys and ochres, the tones are softened and are much more seamlessly introduced to pre-existing interiors. Another great way to introduce a softer version of ultra violet is to opt for cashmere or wool soft furnishings in the punchy tone. For splashes of Ultra Violet, add a silk or satin piping to cushions, curtains or armchairs.” – Brian Woulfe, Founder and Managing Director of Designed by Woulfe

WGSN Trend Predictions

WGSN were one step ahead of the trend, introducing purple in their SS17 colour forecast. From a design perspective, it is a perfect colour for the maximalism we see coming through strongest in fashion and interiors. People no longer want to be consumers, they want to be creators. With Ultra Violet being such an expressive, creative colour, we have seen this shade of irrepressible self-expression come out in make-up, fashion & lifestyle.
