New York Design Week 2014 : Editor’s Taster of Sight Unseen

Introducing Sight Unseen OFFSITE, the brand new design fair happening in New York from May 16-20, 2014, that will feature a curated selection of furniture and product launches by the best independent designers and forward-thinking brands. Familiar names appear in the line up such as Ladies & Gentlemen, Eric Trine, Studio Visibility, Knauf & Brown, Kiosk, and Print All Over Me, to name a few, plus an abundance of emerging talent.

Furniture designer Katrin Greiling and graphic designer Parasto Backman, both based in Berlin, have partnered to launch Chorin, a brand new line of graphic rugs (above) debuting at Sight Unseen OFFSITE that play with visual perspective. The three designs in Chorin’s first collection translate elements of illustration and architectural drawings into fields of color and line.

Zoë Mowat will be joining Sight Unseen OFFSITE from her home base in Montreal, where she’s been preparing new work focusing on storage. Included will be Tablescape I & II — a series inspired by the Eames’ philosophy of “select and arrange” — as well as 33 1/3, pictured above, an ode to the common milk crate designed for storing LPs.

Sight Unseen OFFSITE will maintain the same spirit as the Noho Design District, but on an even more ambitious scale: Held over two floors at 200 Lafayette, the fair will occupy 17,000 square feet in a landmarked Soho building located at one of downtown New York’s most vibrant intersections.
