100% MATERIALS PREVIEW 2010-Suzanne Lee Bio Couture

Suzanne Lee’s pioneering project will be demonstrated by growing a biomaterial using nothing other than some sugary tea and bacteria. Grown in flat sheets, sewn together or moulded over 3D shapes, this eco-textile can then be thrown on the compost heap at the end of it’s lifecycle! You will see the different stages of the process, watch how the growth baths are set-up, be able to feel some swatches and see examples of product prototypes.

Meet Suzanne Lee from Bio Couture and take part in her workshop at 11am -2pm Thursday 23rd September on the 100% Materials stand at 100%Design.

Suzanne Lee is a Senior Research Fellow in Fashion at Central Saint Martins and a creative consultant for fashion brands. Lee is the author of the groundbreaking book ‘Fashioning The Future: tomorrow’s wardrobe’. Lecturing and exhibits internationally, her latest BioCouture garment is on display at London’s Science Museum.

We have read about your work in a Wilson Reading entitled, Suzanne Lee: Growing Clothes in a Bathtub. My students love the idea of knowing about this cutting-edge work that combines science and fabric. Good luck with your production!
