Designer Jonathan Nesci’s latest hyper-minimalist odes to modernism in an upcoming four-day exhibit at Chicago’s Volume Gallery

Designer Jonathan Nesci—whose Library Bookcase won recognition last year for his use of metal from Wallpaper Magazine—is back with a solo show entitled “The New” at a recently-developed design gallery in his hometown of Chicago.

Nesci explains that he designs his minimalist furniture to encapsulate mid-century aesthetics, and the matte white finish helps it to blend into its surroundings while adding a tasteful understatement. Drawing on everyday forms (a curb, a streetlight) the 31-year-old designer crafts his work using concrete and metal—industrial materials are as banal as his sources of inspiration.

As the first in a series of shows presenting American design commissioned by the Volume Gallery, Nesci’s latest series will showcase for four days in the space normally occupied by the Andrew Rafacz Gallery in the city’s famous West Loop from 19-23 March 2010.
